Robert practices extensively in the areas of;

  • Condominium Law and Development;
  • Municipal Law; and,
  • Civil Litigation.

Education
Robert attended the University of Guelph, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies. In the same discipline, he attended graduate studies at the University of Western Ontario.

Following his graduate studies, Robert gained extensive experience in Ontario’s political process and public service. Robert served as a political aide to the Honourable John C. Snobelen, Ontario’s former Minister of Education & Training, followed by serving as the Director of External Operations for the Ontario P.C. Party. Robert has and continues to act as a campaign manager and organizer for a variety of candidates, notably serving as South-Western Ontario Leadership Campaign Manager for the Honourable Ernie Eves, Ontario’s former Premier.

Robert studied law at the University of Windsor, graduating in 2002 with his LL.B. Robert articled with the Toronto law firm of Cassels, Brock & Blackwell LLP, serving an extensive rotation with noted criminal defence lawyer, Eddie Greenspan, Q.C. Robert returned to Guelph and his childhood roots upon his call to the bar in 2003, and is now pursuing part-time a Masters of Law (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Condominium Law
Robert practices extensively in the area of condominium law and development. He acts in both the creation and management of condominiums. As a result, throughout Ontario, Robert regularly works with developers, property management firms and condominium boards to find creative, practical and cost-effective solutions for the unique challenges that condominiums face. Robert routinely advises condominium corporations on the creation of standard unit by-laws and indemnity agreements, the adoption of declaratory, by-law and rule amendments, and the pursuance of enforcement procedures, including; liens, powers of sale, mediations & arbitration, and compliance orders. Robert also actively assists developers in the formation of new condominiums, including; the drafting of agreements of purchase and sale, and the creation of new declarations, by-laws, rules, management agreements, and disclosure statements Upon request, Robert provides a competitive rate sheet for many condominium legal services, which he proudly offers on a ‘flat-rate’ basis.

Robert is currently serving as a Director of the Canadian Condominium Institute (‘CCI’) Golden Horseshoe Chapter, and is also a member in good standing of both the Toronto & London CCI Chapters. Robert regularly contributes articles and seminar presentations to the field of condominium law.

Municipal Law
Robert also acts in the field of municipal law and land use development. Robert has appeared on a variety of occasions before the Ontario Municipal Board on appeals ranging from proposed business park developments to minor variances. Robert’s Masters of Law is focussed solely in the area of Municipal Law.

Civil Litigation
Robert’s experience in civil litigation has brought him before a variety of administrative bodies and courts. Robert has acted on shareholder oppression remedy claims, wrongful dismissal suits, contractual breach actions, and personal injury & medical malpractice claims. Robert was counsel of record for Jeffery S. Lyons, Q.C. before the Toronto Computer Leasing Inquiry and the Toronto External Contracts Inquiry, before the Honourable Madam Justice D. Bellamy. Robert also applies his civil litigation experience to condominium law, having acted on a number of mediations and compliance order hearings. Robert was recently co-counsel on a leading condominium case which resulted in the court’s appointment of both an administrator and inspector, given the board’s oppressive conduct.

Community
Robert avidly participates in his community, both in his professional and personal capacities. Robert is a regular contributor to television programs, university audiences and entrepreneurial groups on topics pertaining both to his practice and the larger role of law. Robert is a regular guest to the Rogers Cable Television program, “Legally Speaking”, emphasizing on condominium law.

Robert is the immediate past-President of the Guelph Provincial P.C. Party Riding Association, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Guelph. In Robert’s spare time, he enjoys golf and the company of his family and close friends.
