Students

We have now completed both our summer student recruitment for the 2013 term, and our articling recruitment process in relation to the 2013/2014 articling term.

Summer Students

We are currently looking for summer students for the 2014 summer period.

The Summer Student Program at SmithValeriote is an important part of our growing firm and we highly value the opportunity to invest in our students to provide a meaningful learning experience for aspiring members of the Ontario and Guelph Bar.  All students are matched with a lawyer as their Mentor, who will be available to the candidate to assist them in providing a rewarding learning experience.

Applicants must be in their second year of legal studies at a duly accredited Canadian law school, and have demonstrated strong academic accomplishments while displaying a commitment to one’s community. At SmithValeriote, the successful candidate will be exposed to a wide range of legal fields, with opportunities in civil litigation, real estate, corporate-commercial law, criminal defense, family law, wills & estates, condominium law, and municipal law. Successful candidates will commence in May 2014 and continue until August 2014.

Please provide the following particulars:

  1. Applicant’s full name and contact information;
  2. All post-secondary academic transcripts, including first and interim second year law school records;
  3. At least one (1) letter of academic reference;
  4. A comprehensive curriculum vitae; and
  5. A short covering letter articulating the applicant’s areas of legal interest.

 Please send applications via e-mail or mail to the attention of E.J. Stross, the Chair of the Lawyer Human Resource Committee, at estross@smithvaleriote.com.

Articling Students

We are currently looking for one (1) to a maximum of three (3) Articling Students for the 2014-2015 Articling term.

Applications from interested candidates are due by Friday, May 3, 2013 at 5:00pm.

The Articling Program at SmithValeriote is an important part of our growing firm and we highly value the opportunity to invest in our students to provide a meaningful learning experience for aspiring members of the Ontario and Guelph Bar.  All students are matched with a lawyer as their Principal, who is available to the candidate to assist them in providing a rewarding learning experience.

Applicants must be entering their third year of legal studies at a duly accredited Canadian law school, and have demonstrated strong academic accomplishments while displaying a commitment to one’s community. The goal of our firm is to expose the candidate to a wide range of law, with opportunities in civil litigation, real estate, corporate-commercial law, criminal defense, family law, wills & estates, condominium law, and municipal law.   Generally, our firm offers a formal rotation for the Articling Program, but is flexible should a student have a strong interest in a particular area of law.

Successful candidates will commence on July 28, 2014.
