Robert Dowhan (Bob) is a partner in the Civil Litigation and Condominium Practice Groups. Bob obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Western Ontario. He was called to the bar in 2001 and has been at SmithValeriote without interruption since his call.
Bob has a sole and dedicated focus on Civil Litigation. Within that dedication to Civil Litigation Bob has a particular interest and emphasis on Property litigation. That entails both real property and personal property.
Bob has extensive experience in dealing with Condominium Litigation including construction defects, compliance orders and allegations of oppressive conduct. Bob has acted for Condominium Corporations in dealing with difficult unit owners, vandal tenants, and negligent developers. Bob has worked on all phases and aspects of Condominium Litigation including mediation, arbitration, court applications and law suits.
Along with Condominium Litigation Bob has developed an insurance defence practice working with Insurers with respect to both Property claims and Title Insurance claims. Bob’s perspective is to try and find a creative and cost effective solution to insurance related issues where it can be found and to litigate to the best of his ability when court intervention is required.
Bob has extensive trial experience and practices in the areas of Civil Litigation, Insurance Litigation, Condominium and Construction Litigation and has been successful before all levels of court in the Province of Ontario.
Bob and his wife, Kate have three wonderful children (Bobby, Lily and Eloise) who keep them both busy during his free hours. As a physical fitness enthusiast, Bob enjoys basketball and other sports. He also spends his leisure time playing sports, fishing, hiking and exploring the outdoors. Kate is a trained chef, so they share a love of cooking, baking and eating.
