Randy is a Partner, his practice is focused on individuals and issues concerning their personal wealth. This encompasses three areas:
1. Family Law:
Randy has extensive experience in Family Law issues ranging from complex property disputes, custody of and access to children, child support, spousal support, and equalization of property. Randy has also trained as a Collaborative Family Law lawyer.
Randy endeavours, in Family Law cases, to achieve a reasonable settlement, but he also has significant court experience, including: conducting trials in the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and appearing in the Ontario Court of Appeal. Randy has extensive knowledge in drafting Separation Agreements, Marriage Contracts, and Cohabitation Agreements. His goal in all Family Law cases is to enable people to settle their affairs and begin a new life.
2. Wills & Estates, including Estate Litigation:
Randy has drafted numerous Wills and Powers of Attorney and has experience dealing with Property, Guardianship, Trusts including Henson Trusts, and Estate Administration. He has also conducted litigation in the Superior Court of Justice concerning Estates, specifically including Holograph Wills, Will Interpretation, Setting Aside Wills, and disputes concerning Jointly Held Assets. Randy has made numerous presentations to groups concerning Will and Estate issues, including presentations on the Rogers Television program, “Legally Speaking”.
3. Residential Real Estate:
Randy has conducted numerous real estate transactions, involving purchases and sales of single family dwellings, condominiums, rural properties, and cottages.
Randy was born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario. He attended University of Toronto and obtained a B.A. in Economics in 1986, and the University of British Columbia obtaining his Law Degree in 1989. He articled with the predecessor firm Smith, Smith, Gazzola, Sansom, and Holub and has acted as Managing Partner, for both the predecessor firm and for SmithValeriote.
Randy has always enjoyed being involved in the local community. He is presently on the Board of Directors of the Guelph General Hospital Foundation. For several years, he has enjoyed coaching his daughters' sports teams. Randy is the former Director and President of the Wellington Law Association. He is an active member of Dublin Street United Church, and formerly was a member of Council and Chair of Finance. He is a member of the Wellington Law Association, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Collaborative Family Law Association of Waterloo-Wellington.
