Randy Brant is a Partner at SmithValeriote Law Firm LLP. He practices in three areas: family law, wills & estates, and residential real estate. He has previously served the firm and predecessor firm as managing partner and is presently a member of the executive committee for the firm.

Randy has extensive experience in family law issues ranging from complex property disputes, custody and access of children, child support, spousal support, and equalization of property.

In family law matters, Randy endeavours to achieve a reasonable settlement but he also has significant Court experience including conducting trials in the Ontario Court of Justice, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and conducting Appeals in the Ontario Court of Appeal. Randy also has extensive knowledge drafting Separation Agreements, Marriage Contracts, and Cohabitation Agreements. His goal in all family law cases is to enable all people to settle their affairs and to begin a new life.

With respect to wills and estates, Randy has drafted numerous Wills and Powers of Attorney, and has experience dealing with property, guardianship, trusts including Henson Trusts and estate administration. He has also negotiated disputes and conducted Litigation in the Superior Court of Justice concerning estates including: Holograph Wills, will interpretation, setting aside wills, dependents relief, and disputes concerning jointly held assets. Randy is a frequent presenter on wills and estates issues.

Randy has conducted numerous real estate transactions involving purchases and sales of single family dwellings, condominiums, rural properties, and cottages.

Randy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (1986) from the University of Toronto and Bachelor of Laws degree (1989) from the University of British Columbia.

Randy is a current member and former director and president of the Wellington Law Association and holds memberships in the Canadian Bar Association and Collaborative Family Law Association of Waterloo-Wellington. He is presently a director of the Guelph General Hospital Foundation and active member of Dublin Street United Church. Randy was formerly very active in the Rotary Club of Guelph Wellington including terms as director and president. In May 2011 he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for contributions to the club and community at large.
