Nicola Melchers is a Partner since 2013 and maintains an active solicitor’s practice applying her extensive UK experience to her legal work in Ontario. Her specialties include business law, municipal law, real estate law and wills and estates.
Nicola also advises both employers and employees on various employment issues in the context of business sales and acquisitions, non competition or non solicitation matters and the preparation or review of employment contracts.
Nicola qualified as a Solicitor in the UK in 1994 and worked in private practice for four years before moving to Lotus Cars International Ltd. as in-house counsel. While there, she was seconded to the Change Management team and helped implement a major strategic change program that was largely responsible for the Company’s turnaround in 2000. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2009 and she joined SmithValeriote Law Firm LLP after articling with a national firm in Kitchener.
Nicola holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of East Anglia in the UK and attended the College of Law in Guildford where she ranked in the top 5% of students passing the Solicitors’ Finals Examinations.
Nicola is a resident of Cambridge and is very active in the communities of Guelph and Cambridge; she has previously served on the Campaign Cabinet of the United Way of Cambridge and North Dumfries and the Board of Directors of the Child Witness Centre. Nicola is a member of the Board of Cambridge Memorial Hospital and the Cambridge and North Dumfries Community Foundation. Nicola and her husband Andrew have two children who keep them busy. When she is not honing her Ukulele skills, Nicola also enjoys running, skiing and home renovating.
