James Pietrangelo (Jim) is a partner at SmithValeriote Law Firm LLP specializing in family law and civil litigation. He has extensive trial experience before all court levels in the Province of Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal. Jim is certified as a Collaborative Family Law Lawyer and has broad experience with adoptions.

Jim’s civil litigation practice includes contractual disputes, personal injury, estate litigation and assisting creditors collect unpaid debts. He also acts regularly for the Ministry of the Attorney General with respect to Canada Student Loan claims.

Jim obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree (Economics) from the University of Waterloo and an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the bar in Ontario in 2002 and has been with SmithValeriote Law Firm LLP since 2001.

Jim is active in the community, acting as a Director and Treasurer of the Wellington Law Association and a Director of the Stonehenge Therapeutic Community. He was formerly heavily involved with the Edward Johnson Music Foundation. Jim is also on the Board of Directors for the Groves Hospital Foundation in Fergus, Ontario.

Jim and his wife Danielle have a teenage son and daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling with his family and attending rock concerts. Jim is a sports enthusiast and is also an avid reader and collector of comic books and graphic novels.
